"In the past, I'd drive a half hour to the office to read job notes, then drive another half hour to the jobsite to do the work," many builders and sub-contractors say. We are building our own project management Web site to assist our staff, clients and sub-contractors in the dissemination of information concerning each part of the building process for each home.

We want to make life easier for our clients, the building staff, sub-contractors, and home buyers who access our Web site (www.scbuilders.com). We want to reduce the number of frantic calls at odd hours about paint colors, change orders, or schedules. Everyone will have the latest information, and it's available 24/7.

We will use our project management site as a bulletin board for sharing information among various parties. We will use secure login names and passwords to keep sub-contractors out of homeowners' business and vice versa. 

The following documents will be on-line for our clients: change order documents, jobsite photos, and plans that can be downloaded in Adobe .pdf format. We want to provide services quickly and efficiently for our clients and business partners. 

We believe regular updates are crucial for effective online project management. Putting everyone on the same page saves time as well as money, since there are lots of soft costs (and headaches) associated with untimely information.

Our desire is to track a project from point of sale through completion, allowing management, clients and sub-contractors to view its status in real time.

Our site will also contain selection and scheduling info, which will be updated daily. We previously, had our sub-contractors getting tons of input from our foreman and builders in the field. Now it's convenient for our sub-contractors to see the status of the site and get the schedule for their work.

With our online project management tools we will have the capability to have our supervisors authorize payment for sub-contractors and suppliers from the field. This will allow us to pay them faster, which should generates a more loyal working relationship.

Our desire is to communicate well with our clients and sub-contractors and turn waffling prospects into clients. We also want to bridge the gap for people who might not be confident that we'd do a good job for them. When they meet one of our clients or when they see our site and the level of detail we communicate, they should know we will meet or exceed their expectations.

We will be implementing online project management gradually and train our staff, investors, clients and sub-contractors as we implement new systems. We will begin by using e-mail and photo attachments for those that are new to this process. As our business partners become more familiar with our processes, we will give them a login and password access to enable them to obtain on-line information concerning their projects.
